Narrator: When the oceans of the world dried up, people said the end of mankind had come. They lamented their fate, and closed their eyes to the limitless ocean overhead. A small few gritted their teeth, believing in a bright new future for mankind... and embarked upon this new infinite ocean – Space. People pointed their fingers and laughed, calling them outlaws chasing empty dreams. This is the story of such a time.

Narrator: In this era, Earth was prosperous. They used robots to claim other planets and produced food and resources, shipping them back to Earth. Since people's livelihood was controlled by the government, there was no need for people to work. However, the government was fearful of a revolt, so they sent subliminal signals in audio-visual feeds to each household. People just watched mindlessly and were muddled with satisfaction. Captain Harlock, fearing for the future of humanity like this, rebelled against the government and became a pirate.

Narrator: The year was 2977 A.D. All of mankind was ruled by one earth government and boasted of its advanced technology. However, their minds had become spiritless and weak. Then one day, a mysterious black object crashed into the Earth. Was it a sign that a fearsome alien force would soon attempt a takeover of earth? Out of five million human beings, only four suspected so.

Harlock: I fight for no one. I just fight for something within my heart.

Kusco: Man is content with this small world. No one is brave enough to venture out into the universe. They confine themselves to this solar system and ship in resources from other planets. All they care for is luxury. Men run from the sound of thunder, and wear make-up and high heels. What if an advanced lifeform, brave and spirited, and full of reckless might, with the power to cross space were to attack the Earth at a time like this? A human race that's heading off to golfing ranges and amusement centers wouldn't stand a chance.

Harlock: When I hear you play the ocarina, it seems to purify my heart.

Harlock: It's shaking with excitement. When we're facing an unknown planet or new battles, the ship shakes with excitement.

Kiruta: Damn that Harlock... He even has a ghost ship on his side.
