Since people's livelihood was controlled by the government, there was no need for people to work. However, the government was fearful of a revolt, so they sent subliminal signals in audio-visual feeds to each household. People just watched mindlessly and were muddled with satisfaction. Captain Harlock, fearing for the future of humanity like this, rebelled against the government and became a pirate.
